Impasto per Pizza (Pizza Dough)

Pizza is certainly one of the most popular foods in the world, and its popularity greatly increased when Italians emigrated to other countries. Even today following tradition, pizza appears as an appetizer on restaurant menus in Sicily. However, now it is made with a variety of crusts, ingredients, and sizes. Families and friends also enjoy making a homemade pizza (fatta in casa), perhaps several different types. Follow this recipe to create a delicious pizza in your own home!

Servings: 4-6

Ingredients for Dough:

  • 200 grams semolina flour
  • 550 grams of warm water
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • few tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

Ingredients for Toppings:

Be creative! Experiment by making a red pizza or a white pizza with whatever you like for toppings. No doubt the result will be delicious!

Directions:

Dissolve the yeast in the water.

Make a soft dough with the flours, salt, and yeast. Cover and leave it in a warm place to rise until it doubles in volume.

Place the dough on a floured surface, and use your fingers to make into a round or rectangular shape.

Put the could into a greased dish or pan, spreading with the fingers until it is about ½ inch thick. Top generously with your choice of cheeses, spices, other toppings, and a few drops of olive oil.

Season with salt and pepper, and back in a hot oven for about 20 minutes.

Cut into the desired number of pieces, and serve hot. Buon Appetito!
